Emotional Healing

With surgery comes a lot of emotional baggage. In the midst of health issues we are very focused on healing our physical bodies as well as trying to reassure those around us that ‘everything is going be to okay’ even if we are unsure of that ourselves. Our emotional recovery tends to take a backseat while we face the everyday issues of doctor visits, learning how our new body works and managing our physical pain. What some of us don’t realise is by not spending time on our emotional selves we negate feelings of discomfort, fear, rejection, guilt, grief, separation and loneliness. This can express itself as depression, loss, disconnection and unhappiness. I want to assure you that I have felt all of those things and it is very normal. Anyone who plays down what a huge life changing event this is has obviously never been through it. For me it was like a purging of everything I needed to let go of, and it was incredibly hard. The up side to this was it was incredibly hard, I learned a great deal and I survived it. My story, like your story should be one of hope, victories and extremes. The human body is an incredible machine but let’s not forget what makes us all tick.
